Perfect Parenthood

Corissa and I found ourselves alone together for about 7 minutes today. Enjoying the uninterruptable time with her, I turned down the radio and instigated a conversation. "How's school going? Do you like your classes? Great weather we're having..." And Cori reciprocated with a great comment. A private lament that I won't share. And I started in on my "I'm-an-understanding-mom-who-can-connect-with-her-teenager-because-I-was-once-a-teenager" monologue. Several minutes into I stopped and apologized for talking too much.

Corissa sweetly said, "When I'm with people who can entertain themselves with their own conversation, I like it because then I can just listen and think about what I want to." (More or less)

So, here's to being the parent of a teenager! I'll keep on learning :)

Niesha, I hope all of your teenagers are as beautiful and sweet as Corissa. She is such a hard worker and so obedient.

Well, I think Cori is pretty much awesome and hope she and Ben will eventually be able to come visit me, but I'm a little confused by the comment. To me, it sounds like she is saying that its great when you talk, because she can tune you out and think about other things. :D But it could be much more sweet in that she was saying, that when you talk, it is easy for her to think about things related to what you are talking about. Cori, which is the right interpretation? :D

As I was reading your blog my mind began to wander and I found when I reached the end of the blog that I hadn't comprehended anything I had just read.
